| Resumen : | El bosque nublado altoandino de Cerro Azul, está ubicado en la Reserva Ecológica los “Ilinizas”, Provincia de Cotopaxi. En esta reserva se asientan varias comunidades campesinas, entre ellas las 3 comunidades sujetos de la presente investigación. De acuerdo a la categoría de Área Protegida, no debería existir la explotación maderera; sin embargo, la memoria oral de los pobladores nos permiten afirmar que, la explotación maderera se inició hace más de cien años. En este lapso, solamente en el área de estudio, se ha reduciendo la masa boscosa en aproximadamente 4.000 hectáreas. Conservar el bosque en mención, es importante por que de el depende la economía local. Ecológicamente es importante per se. | Descripción : | The forest cloudy altoandino of Cerro Azul, it is located in the Ecological Reservation the “Ilinizas ", of Cotopaxi´s country, in this reservation settles several rural communities of 5 cantons, among them the 3 communities subject of the present investigation. Private properties exist with law public and a small part belongs to the State as part of the Protected Area. According to the category of the Protected Area, the timber exploitation should not exist; however, the oral memory of the residents allows us to affirm that, the timber exploitation of the forest began more than a hundred years ago; that is to say before the creation of the Protected Area. In this lapse, only in the study area, there is decreasing the mass boscosa in approximately 4.000 hectares, transformed into grasses for the cattle raising. The relicto boscoso existent is subject of permanent pressure.
