| Resumen : | Esta tesis es un estudio de la implementación de una tabla de criterios como herramienta de evaluación oral a estudiantes de octavo nivel de inglés del Instituto de Idiomas de la Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial. El objetivo más importante de este estudio fue describir el cambio en el manejo de la destreza oral por parte del grupo con la utilización de esta herramienta. El estudio comenzó con la aplicación de la tabla de criterios como forma de evaluación de las presentaciones orales en inglés de los estudiantes, a las que un grupo de estudiantes y docentes dieron respuestas de interpretación desde su perspectiva. Se recopiló información sobre la influencia de esta forma de evaluación comparada con la forma tradicional de calificar de los docentes. También se investigó el manejo oral por parte de los estudiantes frente al uso de tablas de criterio como herramienta de evaluación, a través de aplicación de encuestas a docentes y a estudiantes, entrevista al docente principal de la clase y comparación de calificaciones. En los resultados de la investigación se destacó que las notas de los estudiantes no variaron significativamente. Por otra parte, la percepción que tuvieron los estudiantes y docentes al usar y ser valorados con esta herramienta fue muy positiva y beneficiosa. Este estudio concluyó sugiriendo valiosas recomendaciones a los docentes del área de inglés para que la utilización de esta herramienta sea consistente y a largo plazo. |
| Descripción : | This study focuses on the implementation of a rubric as a tool to evaluate the oral skills of a group of students at eight level studying English as a second language in the Language Institute of the Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial. The primary purpose of this study was to describe the change in oral skills of students that was evidenced with the use of this evaluation tool. The study began with the application of the rubrics as a way to evaluate English students' oral presentations, the group of students and teachers gave interpretative answers from their perspective. The information was recovered about the influence of this way of evaluation compared with the traditional way of grading by teachers. The oral skill of students with the rubric as an evaluation tool was assessed through the application of surveys to teachers and students, an interview to the main teacher and the comparison of the students´ grades. The principal findings of this study showed that the grades of the students did not improve by using the new evaluation tool. On the other hand, the perceptions that the students and teachers had using the rubric were positive and beneficial. The study ends by suggesting valuable recommendations to English teachers to use a rubric as a way of evaluating students bearing in mind that its use must be constant and in a long term plan. |
